The City of Tampere

The City of Tampere is the third largest city in Finland after Helsinki, the capital of Finland, and the city of Espoo. The population of Tampere is approximately 200 000. The city of Tampere was founded in 1779 and in the 19th century Tampere was the leading industrial town in Finland. In the late 19th century the first electric light bulb in Nordic countries was lighted in Tampere. Tampere is still known as a industrial city. The research and education in several different fields have maintained and developed the industry in Tampere area.

Close to nature in the city? In Tampere it is possible. The city centre of Tampere is surrounded by two lakes and the Tammerkoski rapids run through the city. The Pyynikki ridge, parks and recreation areas makes the general picture of the city very attractive.
