Knowledge Modelling and Visualisation
For knowledge visualisation, abstract information models and concepts are made visible by concrete visualisation methods. The concrete visualisation is conducted by the use of suitable data mining, modelling and visualisation methods. Hypermedia Laboratory has excellent know-how of the hypermedia technologies and e-services that are used both nationally and internationally in the development of interactive visualisation. We use semantic web technologies in knowledge modelling and visualisation.
Projects:
- Open Philosophies for Associative Digital Ecosystems (OPAALS)
- Digital Business Ecosystems (DBE)
- Information Research Programme II
- Information Research Programme I
Knowledge modelling and visualisation are also active in other research projects (e.g. Campus Conexus, Semogen, Sindi) in other research themes.
Open Philosophies for Associative Digital Ecosystems (OPAALS)
Duration: 2006 - 2009
Type: International
Partner: 15 European, Asian and South-American research institutes and companies
Sponsor: -

Description: The aims of the OPAALS project are to build a sustainable interdisciplinary research community in the emerging area of Digital Ecosystems and to develop an integrated theoretical foundation for Digital Ecosystems research. This project spans three widely differing disciplinary domains: social, computer and natural science.
The first 18-month period was focused on building the necessary processes and Open Knowledge Space to support the interdisciplinary research activities, in the spirit of open knowledge.
Hypermedia Laboratory participates in defining and especially in visualizing the Open Knowledge space through the use of the principles of semantic web technologies. The laboratory also takes part of in research into languages and ontologies of digital ecosystems and in common research community integration activities. The OPAALS project is coordinated by the London School of Economics and Political Science and partners include research institutions from 13 European and Asian countries.
Digital Business Ecosystems (DBE)
Duration: 2005-2006 (participation by Hypermedia Laboratory)
Type: International (6th framework programme of EU integrated project)
Partner: 20 European research institutes and companies
Sponsor: EU

Description:
The Digital Business Ecosystem (DBE) is an Integrated Project of the European Commissions Sixth Framework Programme. The objective of DBE is to develop digital business ecosystems from the points of view of science, business and software development. DBE is coordinated by T6 from Italy. Hypermedia Laboratory’s role is to co-operate in a business modelling task with Technology Centre Hermia and Finnish companies taking part in DBE.
