Hypermedia Laboratory is responsible for teaching of hypermedia at Tampere University of Technology. Hypermedia can be studied as a major or a minor subject, as a part of Information Technology.

In short, hypermedia means modelling and organising information and services so that the real users, tasks, and the usage context are appropriately acknowledged. Further, since developing and maintaining non-trivial services is expensive, specification and design must aim for efficient production and management. Typical applications of hypermedia include webizised access for legacy information services, user-profiled documentation, and mobile information systems exploiting the ideas of, e.g., recommendation systems.

Students can focus on either technical implementation of structured information or general design and management of hypermedia projects. The teachers of hypermedia are also active researchers of the particular domains.
